The system construction method using insulated overhead lines for low voltage, having proved quite successful in Belgium, France and in the Scandinavian countries since the mid-fifties, has now also become widely accepted in Austria and in the Federal Republic of Germany as a useful alternative between bare overhead lines and underground cables. Advantages such as cost savings, smaller distances from structures and vegetation, an increased protection of labor and lower inductive reactances promise an even wider application of this system construction technique in the future.
