Profound changes are reported in the microelectronics industry. Because of complexity of Very Large Scale Integrated Circuits and the increasing cost of their design, cost effective design tools are being introduced, in order to let the computer handle the level of complexity involved. Some examples of new design equipment are presented. An effort to enhance man-machine cooperation is requested.
