Use of Coaxial Cables in High-voltage Testing Laboratories.

The use of coaxial cables for transmitting quickly variable phenomena between sensor and recorder imposes necessary precautions in order to avoid serious errors in measurement. After reviewing fundamental characteristics of this type of cable, the report analyzes their behavior when transmitting fast signals and develops the notion of matching; then it describes the operating rules adopted in the high-voltage testing laboratories according to the nature of the sensor and the number of connected instruments. The problem of the sensitivity of these cables of electromagnetic disturbances caused by test systems is then considered and the different methods to be used for its reduction are presented.
