MAGNETO-OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF GADOLINIUM IN THE RANGE OF INTERBAND ABSORPTION.

In the 0. 4-5 ev band at liquid nitrogen temperature, the optical constants and magneto-optical effect of changes in the intensity of reflected light during equatorial magnetization are measured for two angles of light incidence. Those measurements are used for calculating the frequency curves of the diagonal and gyrotropic components of the optical conductivity. There is no detailed agreement between experiment and calculation, from which it is concluded that the band spectrum must include empty 4f bands in the region of the Fermi level.
