The machine vacuum system is often neglected. To date, the evolution of the paper machine and associated vacuum requirements led to much larger vacuum systems that require larger pumps, additional power and more space. Modern vacuum pump designs have features minimizing the effect of the new requirements and can be beneficial in upgrading older systems.
