An analytical solution based on the upper-bound technique is derived for cold plug drawing of duplex tubes. A kinematically admissible axisymmetric velocity field is proposed which takes into account the strength and volume ratio of the component materials, redundant work, friction, and strain hardening. Experimental results for the drawing of Al/Al, Al/Cu, and Cu/Al duplex tubes show reasonable agreement with theoretical results. A procedure for practical pass design is outlined.
