The terminal equipment for a submarine cable carrier system can be broadly classified into a main transmission part, which transmits the main signals and compensates for any losses in the submarine cable, a power supply which supplies constant DC power to the submersible repeaters, instruments to measure repeater supervisory signal tones, an order wire system for maintenance, and a fault locator to detect the location of faults in the submarine cable. This paper presents outlines of terminal equipment of a 5 MHz, 12 MHz and 36 MHz submarine cable system.
