摘要
Where MIG welded aluminum joints are concerned, it is almost certain that some kind of porosity will be detected (random, linear or scattered). Also, defects of incomplete fusion or incomplete root penetration can be often detected. A considerable amount of effort worldwide has been put into the examination of influences of quantity and type of defect upon the loading capacity of a weldment. Generally, porosity is of less influence upon the loading capacity than two other mentioned types of defects, especially if cyclic loading is considered, where stress concentrators are of major importance. In this paper, a case of incomplete root penetration on 20 mm thick aluminum plates is described, which has not been detected by radiographic inspection. X. 2 Refs.
