摘要
This paper develops a case for the benefits which can accrue from the combined addition of the alloy elements vanadium and titanium (preferably in the form of Vantit pig-iron) to lamellar-graphite cast iron. Step-by-step, the account deals with many facets and factors for controlling and assessing the quality of iron produced. It is not disputed that if high tensile strength is the sole criterion then V/Ti alloying cannot approach the results to be expected from nodular- (or spheroidal-) graphite iron. However in other areas - particularly to secure excellent wear-resistance of heavy components (for Diesel-engines, for example) - the use of V/Ti alloying is put forward and backed up with a wealth of factual research information.
