The authors conducted a study of the correlations between the potential - time behavior and analytical computations from the theory of galvanostatic current pulses. The calculated data collected indicate that the correlation of the HHE reaction with the Volmer-Heyrovsky mechanism covers diverse combinations of electrolyte media and electrode metals. Hydrogenation of the metal will not push the reaction way from the region of mixed kinetics, although (according to the conclusions of the authors in a previous work) hydrogenation is attended by a certain redistribution of importance of the two limiting steps. Electrochemical desorption is stimulated as the degree of hydrogenation of the electrode metal increases, while discharge according to the Volmer reaction is delayed.
