In order to ease the U. S. energy gap a number of plants for the production of substitute natural gas are now under construction. Most of these units are to use the U. K. Gas Council's catalytic rich gas process based on low temperature reforming. In this article, the main process route available for SNG production is summarized and approximate utility costs together with feedstock consumption and captital costs are given.
