The soil compacting performance is dependent on such parameters as humidity and porosity of the soil, frequency and amplitude of the vibratory action, weight force of the compactor. These parameters and others are reviewed. Hints are given on how to handle fill material for boosting the compaction effect. For measuring the compaction performance right-away, various versions of reliable instruments are nowadays available. Their technical features are outlined.
