KINETICS OF POLYMORPHIC gamma yields alpha TRANSFORMATION AND THE alpha PHASE STRUCTURE OF Fe-Mn ALLOYS.

The investigations were performed on alloys with 0. 9, 3, 4, 6 and 7. 5% Mn (C content 0. 02%). As the Mn concentration increases up to 7% the structure of the alpha phase changes in the sequence: polyhedral grains yields elongated irregular grains yields large plate-like crystals with packet martensite. The kinetic features of the gamma yields alpha transformation in both Fe-Ni and Fe-Mn alloys are apparently caused by a polymorphic transformation in the two-phase region of the constitution diagram.
