Consideration of the life cycle in its entirety is becoming an increasingly important factor for capital equipment. As a result, `Life Cycle Engineering' is developing into an indispensable constituent part of a product, for instance like a pump or a building installation. The aim is to reduce costs for the customer. Such cost savings can be achieved if the installation designer is prepared to accept increased responsibility.
