Systematic measurement of the relative electron-impact excitation cross section of the 3d→2p 1P1 resonance and 3D1 intercombination lines in mid-Z neonlike ions

An electron beam ion trap was used to measure relative electron-impact cross sections for exciting resonance and intercombination lines in mid-Z neonlike ions. The spectral features produced by neonlike transitions were also investigated. The results of the spectral diagnostics showed that the measured ratios were lower compared to theoretical ones where as the relative intensity of the intercombination lines was larger than predicted. It was found that the shifting of the atomic number by two units provided good agreement between measured and calculated results.
