Pulsed-periodic laser welding is characterized by a number of specific parameters, e. g. the on-off ratio, whose information content is quite high. The on-off ratio S combined with the higher density q at the interaction front between the beam and metal determined the stability of the welding process and weld quality. A plot of S as a function of q indicating the regimes of pulsed-periodic laser welding has been constructed and is discussed in detail.
