Using a low-temperature calorimeter, the heat of recrystallization of Pb 99. 99 twisted at 77 K was measured as a function of the degree of strain. The energy values increase with the shear strain from 0. 03 J/g (5. 9 J/mol) to 0. 1 J/g (19. 7 J/mol). The recrystallization temperatures are between 200 and 220 K; they decrease with increasing deformation. The ratio of the heat of recrystallization to the work of deformation is of the same order of magnitude as that of similarly deformed copper samples (approx. 2%).
