DEVELOPMENT OF ARC WELDING ELECTRODES.

This paper is a historical review of the design developments of ferrous type welding electrodes in the period 1903-1975, i. e. , from the time of the initial production of the coated electrode in 1903-1905. Emphasis is placed on the development of flux coatings and their influence on welding characteristics and particularly mechanical properties. Reference is also made to the physical construction and processes of manufacture of electrodes.
