摘要
Formation of signals with minimum frequency modulation and no phase discontinuity (MFM signals) usually involves the appearance of various kinds of distortion: spurious amplitude modulation, deviation of the instantaneous-phase variation law from a piece-wise-linear law, and phase discontinuities. In designing communications systems employing MFM signals it is necessary to give an estimate for the permissible value of such distortions. Some specific types of distortion have been considered in the literature. An attempt was made to characterize all the diverse kinds of distortion by a single numerical coefficient. The results obtained make it possible to apply valid requirements to distortion of signals at the output of modulators and selective systems of modulators, and also enables us to compare various forms of such devices.
