It has been suggested that the hydrogenation of benzylideneacetones and nitrobenzenes proceeds by the electrochemical mechanism discussed in a previous work. If this supposition is correct, then the relationship between the hydrogenation rates of benzylideneacetones and nitrobenzenes and DELTA // phi should, depending on the numerical value of the latter, be described by equations that are presented. This paper deals with verification of this fact. Experimental results confirm the usefullness of the equations. This agreement between the theoretically derived and experimentally obtained relationships confirms the correctnes of the theoretical concepts and is proof of the reliability of the suppositions postulated previously on the electrochemical character of the hydrogenation mechanism of nitrobenzenes and benzylideneacetones under the conditions studied.
