This work illustrates the methodology for the optimized design of an ac contactor electromagnet, not only providing the numerical aspect of the problem but, above all, motivating the choices that have led to the rational simplification of the problem. The main characteristics and performance of the relative calculation program are presented in an example which shows the large amount of information which is put at one's disposal and which can therefore be used directly or stored to create a data bank for future designs.
