Scandium as an important component of alloys continuously grows. The investigation of alloy phase diagrams containing scandium, in particular, Sc-M-C systems is of special interest. Scandium has a twofold nature, it forms the B1 carbide like d-metals of IV-VI groups and also forms two carbides with the higher carbon content. The possibility of calculation for the Sc-M-C phase diagrams arose recently, as the experimental thermodynamic data for scandium carbides have been obtained. However, there are some difficulties in applying these data. A coupled model set of phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties for Sc-C system is constructed based on the recent experimental data.
