A method of qualitative evaluation of the oil and gaspotential of flysch Paleogene deposits, relying on the established regularity of variation of the magnitude of gas saturation of formation waters in the vicinity of an oil and gas deposit, is developed using the example of several pools of the Borislav-Pokutian zone. This relation is described by a mathematical function. A formula for the determination of the absolute elevation of the water/oil (or water/gas) contour is derived.
