One of the main factors which restricts the flexibility of high-capacity steam turbines is that of the thermal stresses arising in rotors with variable conditions. An analysis is presented on the effect of discs on temperature and stressed state of a rotor to find the nature and the extents of the disturbances introduced by the discs to the temperature field and to the stress field of the rotor when it is heated. The results of this investigation can be employed in assessing the feasibility of using a simple one-dimensional model in calculating heating of a rotor for the optimal operational conditions developed, for formulating control algorithms for generating units, etc.
