The accidental spillage of liquefied natural gas offers a number of safety hazards, some of them associated with the atmospheric dispersion of the vaporized gas. The methods of treatment that have been used heretofore, especially Sutton's plume formulas, are discussed, and it is shown that these methods are not entirely adequate, especially for large spills. Several characteristics by which these gas clouds differ from the plumes from industrial stacks are considered.
