Despite the many advantages offered by tools equipped with cutting edges of polycrystalline diamond (PCD), their industrial application is restricted as it is difficult to shape the cutting edge of the blank by grinding. One problem involved is the high hardness of PCD, which has to be ground by a diamond grinding disk of almost the same hardness. An economic result can only be achieved by optimization of the cutting conditions. Of particular importance in this connection is the choice of a grinding disk suitable for the process.
