Industrial furnace linings of materials displaying excellent insulating properties and low heat storage properties have proved of advantage in terms of energy savings. These lightweight insulating materials have to meet exacting demands as regards temperature resistance and chemical stability. The author first deals with the general properties of fiber materials and then outlines the methods available for lining industrial furnaces.
