摘要：

The paper discusses some of the problems facing the industry in the 1980's which will affect mining techniques in that period. It examines areas of potential change and the associated reasons in coalface operations, and suggests that the greatest impact on efficiency will result from changes in underground services. Strategies for potential improvement in this category are discussed.
