The multi-stage flash evaporator which is widely used for large-scale desalination plants was mathematically analyzed by the JUSE-GIFS simulation method. It was a process analysis for the brine recirculation type. The relations between system performance and characteristics of each stage were made clear in the following studies: The influence of brine recirculation ratio; the efect of number of stages on the heat rejection section; the influence of area ratio, or heat recovery to heat rejection section; the influence of sea-water feed rate; the influence of sea-water temperature; the effect of brine heater temperature; the influence of fouling factor; the effect of number of stages.
