摘要
A new high frequency welding technique has been devised and patented that will compete advantageously in certain areas with spot welding. Called high frequency melt welding, the new technique involves applying high frequency electrodes to several pieces of metal that are to be joined. Current flowing between the two contacts heats and melts the area between them. Since the melt is composed of two or more pieces of metal immediately adjacent to one another, the metal from both pieces will run together and produce a small cast weld. This continuous process would be suitable for steel, stainless steel, Inconel, Incaloy, and possibly other materials. Total thickness of the combined edges of strips at the present time should not exceed 3/16 in. (4. 8 mm). Minimum thickness would be about 0. 020 in. (0. 5 mm).
