摘要
The positron backscattering intensity has been measured from thick targets of nine elements, two alloy systems and three aqueous solutions using a **2**2Na positron emitter in a reflection geometry. In the case of elemental targets, the saturation value of the backscattering intensity has been found to vary as Z**1**. **6**6, markedly different from the case of thin-target positron backscattering and thick-target negatron backscattering. In the case of multicomponent systems, the saturation backscattering intensity has been expressed in terms of effective atomic numbers and effective atomic weights. Also, the concept of an effective Z-dependence has been extended in order to analyze the data from these systems. A comparison with earlier studies on negatron backscattering by the authors has been made in order to bring out the differences in the two cases.
