The reaction of active chlorine with fenuron in dilute aqueous solutions has been studied. It has been shown that the first stage of the reaction is the formation of the N-chloro derivative of fenuron. The conditions for the decomposition of fenuron have been established. Aniline has been identified in the decomposition products. The mean values of the rate constants of the decomposition of fenuron under the action of active chlorine at pH 3. 8, 7. 4, and 10. 5 are, respectively, 0. 215, 0. 009, and 0. 02 l multiplied by (times) mmole** minus **1 multiplied by (times) min** minus **1 at 20 degree C. The degree of purification in terms of COD was 65. 2% (neutral medium).
