This article reviews two aspects of plastics which are important to the protection of the environment; litter and the presence of plastic packaging materials in the domestic refuse. Legal measures concerning plastics and one way packaging materials are reviewed. Recycling of the plastic refuse is suggested as the most promising solution for the future. Incineration appears to be the obvious method for the disposal of the collectable waste. The air pollution related to the presence of polyvinylchloride PVC in the domestic refuse has been reduced to its real proportions.
