摘要
The unique nature of the cutoff operation has produced many different chip-control geometries, applied with varying degrees of success. An examination of these forms and their functions by Iscar Metals Inc (Hackettstown, NJ) shows two distinct solutions: chip breakers and chip formers, which work in different ways and offer their own advantages and disadvantages. Iscar's basic concept is that chips stressed during chip forming are easily broken with minimal energy consumption and part deflection, allowing greater productivity and lower cost per part.
