Silicone systems have historically found limited use in textile coating applications. The primary uses of silicones in the textile market are as lubricants, water repellents, and softeners. Most uses of silicone rubber compositions involve their application as textile treatments but not continuous coatings. However, new developments in silicone technologies and materials have expanded the types of coating techniques which can be utilized for the application of silicone elastomers. These new silicone elastomer systems demonstrate properties which heretofore could only be generated by utilizing rubber molding techniques.
