An expert system, the Customer Order Relaying Assistant (CORA), is used by the Westinghouse Relay Group to improve productivity and customer service and to reduce cycle time. CORA contains information on more than 580 relays that have a total of about 7,000 style numbers. The marketing group uses the knowledge base portion of CORA to find information about relays and to develop quotes. After a quote is developed, the systems engineering group uses CORA to complete initial system configurations and to analyze systems already configured. The component negotiations group uses CORA to prepare quotes for customers and to answer questions concerning style number characteristics.
