In an increasing number of complex cases of pipeline construction, the co-ordinated method of design is being recognized as an appropriate solution. That is to say, the line and level of the pipeline are defined prior to construction, with reference to the O. S. National Grid. In this paper the procedures used to carry out a major diversion of four trunk water mains using this method are examined.
