Plastic Baby Bottles: A Familiar Product Still in Need of Great Improvement.

Baby bottles come in two types: glass and plastic. In West Germany - in hospitals, at least - only glass bottles are used. The drawback of glass bottles is their high weight and the risk of breakage. The bottles seldom survive more than ten sterilization runs. In the Scandinavian countries, only plastic bottles are available commercially. Despite this, plastic bottles are still in need of improvement. The shape and design have been taken over directly from the glass bottle, and no one has ever taken the trouble to create a design specially tailored to plastics. One of the points requiring improvement is the size, since only standardized sizes are available so far. The neck of the bottle should be widened in order to facilitate cleaning, and a shape other than round should be selected to prevent the bottle from rolling away when in a horizontal position.
