Ceramic cutting materials have been subject to rapid development. New ceramic grades such as mixed ceramics or metal ceramics have opened the way to ceramic cutting materials applications not thought possible a short time ago. This article briefly reviews the characteristics and applications of oxide ceramics, mixed ceramics, nitride ceramics and metal ceramics (cermets). When turning and milling cast and steel material with ceramic cutting material, increased productivity and economy is achieved compared to carbides.
