Many beneficial tools and techniques have been developed that would greatly increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the construction industry, yet many companies have tried and failed to implement these products or have made no attempt at implementation because of the barriers that are inherent to the industry. In an effort to understand how to better manage implementation, a series of interviews was conducted with twelve companies. The interviews were conducted to achieve five objectives. 1. Assess the effectiveness of current implementation strategies in the construction arena, including owners, designers, and constructors. 2. Identify key success factors in implementation management. 3. Identify the characteristics of an environment that nurtures innovation. 4. Identify the barriers to implementation and recommend actions to remove these barriers. 5. Incorporate information from readings and experiences shared during the interviews.
