The Mereenie oil and gas field of Australia covers about 50 sq miles in the western central Amadeus basin. The field has an elongated shape, and most of the oil is contained in a narrow rim in the flank areas of the structure. To increase reserves in the developed area and transform the economically marginal undeveloped rim areas into economically attractive areas for development, an oil-rim development strategy was developed. Simulations conducted to validate this approach.
