Recent product improvements by a number of manufacturers are outlined. These include: the Softcup product from Instead; ultra-thin pads from Kimberly-Clark; the controversial 'revolutionary' tampon from Playtex; biodegradable and flushable sanitary napkins and panty liners from Premier Care; and tampons which supposedly guard against vaginal infections from Rostam (Israel). The sector continues to undergo restructuring and SCA European Hygiene has acquired a 50% stake in a Chilean hygiene products company.
