Increasing importance of reliability and availability of energy systems makes necessary more appropriate and accurate mathematical methods for evaluation of hazard (failure) rate and reliability of energy equipments. A method is described for computing those parameters of parallel redundant energy systems whose hazard rates are stress-dependent; a fact which has been ignored till now. Hazard rate of individual equipments has been considered as stochastic and its mathematical expectation has been derived in terms of the number of redundant units. A formula for failure-rate derating is developed and derating charts to facilitate its quick evaluation for various types of equipments are provided.
