Radiative Damping of Acoustic-gravity Waves in a Nonisothermal Atmosphere.

Using the Wenzel-Kramers-Brillouin method in a Newtonian approximation, an analysis is made of the radiative damping of acoustic-gravity waves with an arbitrary temperature vs. height profile. In a model of a nonisothermal atmosphere with an exponential distribution of absorbing material an exact solution is obtained, and the relative role of radiative damping among other mechanisms of dissipation of acoustic-gravity waves is ascertained.
