A recently developed compact passage-type regenerator matrix is described and the heat transfer and pressure-drop performance reported. The heat transfer performance was obtained with the single blow technique using a new test rig, the features of which are discussed. An attempt is made to compare the performance of different types of regenerator matrix using the available published data in a way that is particularly applicable to automotive gas turbine regenerators. This comparison indicates the range of overall matrix parameters that should lead to effective automotive gas turbine regenerator matrix design.
