Bunzl reported a 10% rise in turnover of up to £2.1 B for 1999, and a 13% increase in operating profit of up to £158 M. The paper distribution division increased sales by 6% or up to £283.7 M, although operating profit stood still at £17.5 M. The price deflation was blamed for the static profit level. The increase in volume was attributed to a closer focus on customer service and the launch of new initiatives.
