British Benzol and Coal Distillation Limited has been producing coke, without interruption, since the company was established in 1929. This article describes the company's development from uncertain beginnings to its present position as the sole-remaining independent foundry coke producer in the UK. The manufacturing principles of coke production are outlined and the Bedwas Coke Works at Trethomas in South Wales are described.
