For a small combatant craft to perform its mission, it must remain undetected throughout its search, acquisition, assault, and retreat. Four signatures of the craft which could reveal its presence are: radar cross section, infrared radiation, airborne noise, and underwater noise. This paper deals with understanding the sources of these four 'giveaways' and how to minimize them. The paper also presents a light amount of mathematical treatment on how some of the signature minimizing techniques work from a theoretical point of view.
