This paper discuses the reasons why appearance considerations are an important factor in engine diesel design. A comparison is given of several models manufactured without taking into account the appearance criteria, and those subsequently designed with an improved appearance. One of the most unique aspects of the engine design is revealed in the scalloping of the wall surfaces of the block and ladder frame.
