摘要：

The author reviews the changes in the structure of the world economy which have led to the current crisis in the steel industry. He then outlines the measures which the steel industry has taken in various countries and regions to adapt to this unfavorable situation. Further steps that must be taken in order to preserve the steel industry are indicated. The need to make the public aware of what is happening to the steel industry and of the continuing importance of steel production is stressed.
